There's really not that much gaming material in the works these days, considering I have almost no free time. What follows is a look at some of the unfinished projects that are laying around waiting for publication. Hopefully some will make it to your friendly neighborhood gaming store soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

GURPS WWII: Blitzkrieg

Formerly entitled GURPS WWII: Sickle Stroke, this splat book is aimed at delineating the Battle of France during May-June 1940. It's more of an adventure book than a source book, and should be chock-full of adventure ideas, game mechanics, atmosphere, and other cool crunchy bits.

  • First Draft Deadline: January 10, 2003 (COMPLETED)

  • Status: On Hold

  • Size: 48 pages (approx 27,000 words)

  • Outline: Blitzkrieg Outline

  • SJ Games Web Page: N/A

  • Notes: This project is on temporary hold. It's been cancelled as a book and scheduled for release as part of the new pdf/electronic media line (called e23) SJ Games is considering. Needless to say, I'm less than thrilled. We'll see how this pans out, but I suspect it's going to be a while.

    Godlike: Operation Torch

This Superheroes/WWII supplement for Godlike will cover the Allied invasion of North Africa in 1942. It was originally slated for production in 2002, but was temporarily postponed. I'm coauthoring the supplement with Dennis Detwiller, Shane Ivey, Gene Moyers, and Shawn Fisher.

  • First Draft Deadline: March 10, 2003 (COMPLETED)

  • Status: In Production (Between Drafts)

  • Size: My portion is 30,000+ words. The supplement itself is much larger.

  • Godlike Home Page: Godlike

  • Notes: The project is well under way, and will hopefully be out sometime this year. On a personal note, it's been nice working with Dennis and Shane; they're nice guys. Go buy their books (or at least check out Arc Dream Publishing, their new company). It's also been nice knowing I'm working on a book with old friends Gene Moyers and Shawn Fisher. Be cool to see all our names on the same book one day.

    Spycraft Short Fiction and NPC

A little freebie I did for the Spycraft Web Site that includes some short fiction and a d20 NPC writeup. No idea if they'll take it, but I've got some help from artist andi jones so I can't imagine they'll hate it. :)

  • First Draft Deadline: None.

  • Status: Done (Click Here)

  • Size: 5,000 words or so

  • Spycraft Web Page: Spycraft RPG

  • Notes: Had a lot of fun working this up, and andi did such a great job of capturing the character's feel in his illustration of Sara. I sent off the draft to Patrick Kapera in June 2003. No reply yet. Maybe I should nudge him.

    Cult of the Double Axe

A 1930s adventure novel I've been working on forever. Unfortunately, other projects continue to take time away from this book, so the half-finished manuscript continues to wait patiently to be completed. No ETA on completion for this back-burner project.

  • First Draft Deadline: N/A

  • Size: Approx 100,000 words

  • Status: In progress... very slowly

  • Excerpt: Cult of the Double Axe: Chapter One

  • Notes: I love this book, and would like nothing more than to actually have time to finish it. Problem is, when writing a novel one has to complete the thing before an agent, editor, or publisher will look at it. They don't want outlines or half-written manuscripts, so I have to complete the book before I can start shopping it around. With my other projects, I have a signed contract and money up-front, based solely on an outline, which makes it a lot easier to pay the bills and to stay focused on the project, since I know it will see print. So... every time I end up working on this novel, a new gaming contract shows up and I end up devoting my time to that instead of to Cult. Maybe some day I'll actually have enough money to take the time off to finish this. Or I'll start writing as many words a day as Steve Long, who can churn out thousands of words a day without breaking a sweat...
